Making a housing demand study work for your campus

Earlier this summer, I had the opportunity to attend the Association of College and University Housing Officers International’s annual conference and exposition (ACE) in Pittsburgh.  As always, ACE is a fantastic opportunity to catch up with colleagues from around the country (and world), and to participate in excellent learning and professional development.

In addition to attending the conference, I had the pleasure of presenting a session with my friend and former colleague Deb Schmidt-Rogers.  Our presentation focused on how a college or university might go about preparing for a housing demand study for their campus, using our own experience of a housing demand study conducted for the department of Residence Life at Loyola University Chicago while we both worked together there.  While our presentation is available for members of the ACUHO-I association, I wanted to also share the slide deck and planning worksheet here, in the hopes that it might be helpful to my audience.

Title: Making a Housing Demand Study Work for Your Campus

Abstract:

Are you looking to maximize your residence hall occupancy? Considering new construction or even a P3? This session will focus on navigating the process of a consultant-led housing demand study for your on-campus housing program. A housing demand study or housing market study, is typically most effective when led by an outside entity, and can help you determine your true demand for on-campus housing, how to position your housing rates, and what style of housing might be be the most desirable.
